Science Supplements - The Equine Health & Nutrition Specialists

The very first Science Supplements products were the brainchild of Dr David Marlin, a scientist with 25 years’ experience in the horse industry who has worked with the FEI, IOC, and as a consultant to the British Equestrian Teams since 1994.

Author of books and over 200 scientific papers, Dr Marlin developed these products to fulfill the need of his professional clients for quality supplements containing high grade, clinically proven ingredients that work.

From 2003 – 2012 the range of supplements were only available to professional riders, trainers, producers, yards and studs in racing, polo, endurance, showjumping, eventing, and dressage, plus to the wider equestrian community in the United States in partnership with Purina Animal Nutrition. 2014 saw the launch of the products in the UK and further export to other parts of the world. In 2019, the US division of Science Supplements was incorporated, with the first products shipping out to US and Canada horses in early 2020.

Latest Technology

What we know and learn about our horses is ever-changing, and the more we understand through new innovations and studies, the better we can provide for them.

We use this technology across our entire range. For example, electrolyte uptake is greatest via the small intestine, therefore our Complete Electrolyte supplement uses Micro Encapsulation Technology: a unique delivery system, that achieves optimal uptake and reduces gastric irritation that may be caused by normal electrolytes dissolving in the stomach.

Clinical & Scientific Trials

Independent data takes the guesswork out of choosing which supplement to buy. Many of  our products have clinical trials, and some have resulted in peer reviewed, published studies.  See our Research section for trial info and results.  At the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) congress in 2013, the findings of the trials undertaken on FlexAbility were accepted and presented to the congress by Dr Rachel Murray, an internationally recognized equine orthopedic clinician and researcher.  Further, this study was accepted and published in the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science.  

Transparency

What you see is what you get! Clear, simple, transparent labeling allows you to see how much of each ingredient goes into each product. The entire range is tested for prohibited substances under the BETA NOPS scheme and undergoes extra screening for peace of mind - such as testing for mycotoxins and independent laboratory testing to confirm active ingredient levels are standard.

We manufacture to a strict code of feed safety. Our products are manufactured in our licensed premises using quality assured ingredients under strictly controlled production conditions and conforms to the requirements of EU and UK legislation governing the manufacture of animal feeding stuffs. We monitor for the presence of specified naturally occurring prohibited substances (NOPS) as required under the rules of racing and other affiliated competitions, which are in line with BETA NOPS guidelines. Adherence to these guidelines ensures that the risk of occurrence of such substances is minimized.
